Unisys announced on Aug. 18 a $232 million award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for cloud and application modernization services.

Unisys, a global information technology company that offers cloud and infrastructure services, application services, security solutions, and server technology, will support USDA’s Rural Development Comprehensive Loan Program (CLP). This program is meant to boost economic development in rural areas. Unisys was selected after a competitive bidding process; the company previously did contracting work for the agency in 2010.

“Unisys is pleased to have been selected to continue our work in support of the important mission of USDA Rural Development,” said Casey Coleman, group vice president of Civilian Agencies for Unisys Federal. “This program will help the agency develop and maintain software systems needed for the essential loans and grants to help improve the economy and quality of life in rural America.”

USDA’s contract has a ceiling value of $232 million over the base period and seven option years. Under the contract, Unisys will offer secure Web access to people who participate in USDA’s programs.

The company will also support application modernization, maintenance, and operations within the agency, using agile techniques to develop reliable software. Unisys will enhance CLP framework so that the agency can integrate separate applications across multiple computing platforms. Using an Amazon Web Services-based DevOps environment, the contractor will also prepare projects to integrate into USDA’s cloud-based infrastructure.

“Unisys welcomes the opportunity to continue to provide these innovative solutions leveraging our experience implementing secure cloud services across government,” said Greg Gordon, Unisys client executive for Natural Resources Agencies. “Our record of success in delivering secure business-to-government services offerings can help USDA Rural Development achieve its objectives safely and securely.”
