Nevada Appoints New CIO, Fourth in Five Years

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak has appointed Timothy Galluzi to be the state’s new chief information officer (CIO), a position that has been vacant since November 2021.

Galluzi has been the head of the state’s Enterprise IT Service Division (EITS) for just over a year. He will continue to serve in that role while simultaneously serving as the state’s new CIO.

Galluzi has been a public servant for the State of Nevada since 2013, working in various IT and leadership roles. He has been with Nevada’s EITS since 2018, where he began as a project manager.

The state’s CIO role has been vacant since November, when previous CIO Alan Cunningham stepped down after holding the position for just over a year. In his resignation, Cunningham cited issues with the office’s changing role, limited resources, and restrictive policies as the reasons for his departure.

Nevada has had four different CIOs in the last five years – Galluzi being the fifth. And as Gov. Sisolak faces re-election against Republican candidate Joe Lombardo, Galluzi’s role as the CIO could be short-lived.
