Houston Christian University (HCU) launched a Master of Science program in computer and information sciences with two options: 100% online and low-residency, which combines online coursework with an on-campus weekend residency for each course.
The curriculum addresses foundations of IT, cloud computing, cybersecurity, database management, data analytics, information systems, enterprise systems, governance and compliance, human-computer interaction, big data, and application development.
The first two courses in the 33-credit-hour program are offered during the fall 2026 semester, the university said in a Sept. 21 press release.
“The Master of Science in Computer and Information Sciences program responds to the increasing industry need for highly skilled professionals in computer and information systems,” said Zadok Hakim, associate provost for online technology at HCU. “Our goal is to prepare our graduates with the knowledge, technical skills, and practical capabilities needed to meet industry expectations from day one on the job.”
Students complete the program with either a research-focused capstone project or an applied learning practicum to gain experience implementing technology solutions in enterprise environments.
“We are focused not only on helping our graduates understand and analyze the challenges facing today’s technology-driven industries, but also on preparing them to apply their knowledge and technical skills in practical, real-world environments,” said Katie Evans, dean of HCU’s College of Science and Engineering.
“By emphasizing hands-on learning and industry-relevant applications, our goal is to help graduates advance in their organizations or become productive members of their organizations immediately while minimizing the traditional onboarding process,” Evans added.
The university’s College of Science and Engineering also offers online master’s programs in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data science. Earlier this month, HCU announced plans to launch a Bachelor of Science in artificial intelligence in fall 2027, and its bachelor’s degree in information systems received accreditation from the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET.
