Maine submitted its five-year broadband action plan to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) this month, following a public comment period that closed in June.

The Biden administration today announced how it will distribute more than $42 billion in Federal funding to expand high-speed internet access nationwide, commencing the largest-ever campaign to help an estimated 8.5 million families and small businesses obtain access to affordable broadband services.

The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) said on August 17 that all 50 states, along with the District of Columbia and all U.S. territories, have filed applications for initial planning funds under the government’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program that aims to distribute $42.4 billion of broadband-related grants to underserved or unserved communities.

States can officially start submitting funding requests for their broadband expansion needs starting May 16 when the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) plans to release a funding opportunity, said NTIA Administrator Alan Davidson.
